About
Julie Flannagan, LMFT
Founder & Owner of Grounded Roots Counseling
At Grounded Roots Counseling, therapy is about more than coping, it’s about building resilience, gaining clarity, and discovering your own strength. I’m Julie, and I provide virtual therapy across Tennessee, with in-person appointments available on Tuesdays for individuals ages 18+ and couples.

My Story & Approach
I’ve faced life’s challenges firsthand, and I understand how heavy anxiety, grief, trauma, or major life transitions can feel. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe, compassionate space where you can be your authentic self while working toward real, lasting change. I believe therapy works best when clients feel both supported and empowered.

My approach is warm, authentic, and occasionally direct, combining compassion, practical tools, and gentle guidance. I aim to help clients feel empowered to take the steps that matter most in their lives, while also feeling supported throughout the process. Therapy here isn’t about “fixing” you, it’s about helping you discover your own strength.
Professional Background
I use attachment-based therapy to help clients build insight into how generational trauma can impact their relationships and the way they navigate life’s stressors. With couples, I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to strengthen connection and understanding. I also integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), grief counseling, trauma treatment approaches such as Brainspotting, and Solution-Focused Therapy to best support each client’s unique needs.

I have worked extensively with:

-
Young adults navigating life transitions and independence
-
Adults coping with grief, trauma, anxiety, depression or chronic illness
-
Couples seeking to strengthen connection and communication
-
Parents of children with special needs

Why I Do This Work
I’ve faced many challenges in my own life, and through those experiences, I’ve learned how to rise above them and thrive. This personal journey inspired me to become a therapist. I know firsthand that, with support and effort, it’s possible to overcome difficulties and grow stronger.

Therapy isn’t about “magical” solutions , it takes work and it can be deeply rewarding. I help clients see that struggles are normal, that bad days happen to everyone (including me), and that with consistent effort and guidance, good days will come more often. My passion is helping people feel empowered, understood, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges and make the best choices for themselves.
